How to Have a Successful Career in Your Spare Time - Lesson 5

Lesson #5: Audiobooks
As you know from Lesson 4, I'm a fan of multi-tasking. Why do just one thing at a time when you can do two? Heck, why do two things at once when you can do three?

Audiobooks are a fantastic way for the time-constrained 'do-it-all' to enjoy books, without sacrificing spare time to actually sit around reading. Hey, I sit in front of a computer all day reading things, I don't need to do more of that. My favorite time to listen to my audiobooks is during my work commute.

Commute + Workout + Books = Hours of free time

I'm no mathologist, but that looks like a magical equation to me.

There is a certain genius to it. I'd vote for you to win a Nobel Prize for Physics if I were on the selection committee...

Of course I'm not... so... don't get your hopes up or anything...

Unfortunately I somehow could never get into audio books - believe me I've tried - for the very reasons you've pointed out with your equation. I always found them... I don't know... distracting? One track mind, I guess.

If it works for you though, THAT ROCKS!

i like your mathology. but i tend to agree with tim in the never getting into audio books, but more because i can't seem to find decent books on tape (or newfangled cd) at the library.

tell me: where do you find your favorite audio books? are there certain 'narrators' you prefer?

My landlords love the books on tape thing, culminating with extended works of Proust whilst marathon training.

On the other hand, while I love some good spoken-word, I can't use it as a reading replacement. Reading, to me, is a different art-form, I like looking at the words, actually seeing how they sit together on the page, their visual rhythm as well as aural....
